Okay. We’re in a recession. But we still wanna have a good time. Right?

So how about journeying all the way to Tacoma, Wa. to see your favorite gospel artist – TYE TRIBBETT AND G.A. Oh sorry. Scratch that. Just Tye Tribbett. G.A.’s not gonna be there. Details below.

I almost fainted when I saw this. Tye Tribbett, who hasn’ learned a “got-darn” thang from Tiger Woods after getting sidelined in the blogosphere for an alleged adulterous affair with another gospel singer’s wife (you do the research), is still getting booked for shows in the church. Next on the tour schedule: Church for All Nations, Tacoma, Washington.

Well, one of the event’s promoters (C. Ivan Johnson) posted the event on Facebook and I just asked the simple question: Why was the gospel community still endorsing this dude? Now I’ve been in trouble with Tribbett’s camp before. They didn’t like the album reviews at PRAYZEHYMNOnline.com. But the big green monster that arose from the gossip universe surrounding the love triangle with gospel rapper Da’ T.R.U.T.H. and his wife broke its silence. And the rumor-mill went bonkers.

C. Ivan went on the ultra-defense. throwing a heavyweight of a scripture at me from Matthew 7 about judging others. I took heed to his counsel, but reminded Mr. Johnson that Tribbett hasn’t done a good job at doing that himself. He bashed the gays, he ripped a hole in producer/songwriter P.J. Morton for doing secular music and gospel and has been extremely popular with his “pop-up video” volatile sermons at gospel concerts. Now that Tribbett’s on the other side of mercy, he should expect the same kind of mercy he’s giving others. Remember…if you judge…expect to be judged in the same manner. That’s simple sowing and reaping, folks.

By the way, the Tacoma show, also featuring Mali Music and Lisa McClendon, is being booked and promoted by a hair stylist. A hair stylist. C’mon Tye. You don’t wanna go there.

G.A. announced their break-up with Tribbett earlier this year – probably due to all the madness surrounding their Tiger Woods’ director.

Tye Tribbett for $40 bucks? I rather go see Whitney.

  1. I’ve been a reader of your website for years, as well as a member of your prazyehymmonline yahoo group, and this is my first time commenting on your blog. I must say it is wrong, for you to blast C. Ivan and others as event promoters for a Tye Tribbet concert. Tye is still an anointed man of God, who does not deserve to be shunned or put out. I find it troubling that as a Christian yourself, that you actually have a problem with the “church” or C Ivan, for actually doing the right Christian thing and accepting Tye, and leaving the judgment for God. I really hope you don’t “reap what you sow” and a mistake you made comes to light, and all your followers on your blog and website, judges you and refuses to support your site. But don’t worry I won’t be one of them, cause at the end of the day NOBODY is perfect, and we are all striving to make it. In addition, about the “hairstylist” remark, I can’t believe for a young man who seems to write so sophisticated at times, would resort to using stereotypes and assumptions. God Bless!

  2. How is it wrong? We report news, headlines and anything else that’s news-worthy. As you can see, we don’ just report gospel reports anymore. We’ve ventured out. So please, refrain from using too much of the Christian ying-yang stuff here. Tye was wrong, as the public has addressed. He has failed to confess to those things and people like you and C. Ivan or anyone else continues to support him. I find that to be a little weird. Especially since Tiger Woods did confess to his wrongdoings publicly. I’m beginning to think the reasons why you guys are defending the troubled singer is because you’re 1) guilty of doing the same things 2) you’re doing the same things with him or 3) you’re mad ’cause the truth hurts. I just hate that this guy was paid thousands to condemn and judge others (including the gay community, PJ Morton and anyone else in his way) but now that he’s in need of God’s mercy, he wants you to love him with every ounce of T.L.C. Wish it worked like that. If it’s so wrong for me to judge him, why is it okay for him to judge anyone else?

Furthermore, I am a critic and a journalist. This is what I do.

  3. i didn’t hear anything about tye & G. A breaking up…. Whereis this new at?

  4. Wow Wow WOW. I don’t think we should judge, actually, I know we shouldn’t per the Bible…but I must admit….you have a point. It seems to me that the most judgmental artists, preachers, and “gospel celebrities” are the ones being exposed. The fact is, we all have had, (or have) our own closet(s) full of skeletons. The truth does not change, but we have to accept the truth with the same “fervor” that we give it. And at the rate Tye was going for condemning sin, he’s definitely up for more than one serving of judgment to come down on him. At the end of the day, love, compassion, and understanding go farther than hate, fussing, and judging. I would love to hear what Tye has to say at his concerts now about “sin”…

  5. I have a couple problems with you theology and your reasoning. Although Tye was wrong for what he did, he repented and went through a season of accountability and restoration so you HAVE TO, as a “Christian”, forgive not hold past sin against him. Like Mia said, he is anointed and as David was when he sinned with Bathsheba but he got past it and lead Israel with God on his side. Now you say:
“He bashed the gays, he ripped a hole in producer/songwriter P.J. Morton for doing secular music and gospel and has been extremely popular with his “pop-up video” volatile sermons at gospel concerts.”
Does that mean that when someone does something that is wrong, we can go ahead and follow suit with a “…he did it first” mentality (like a 5 year old)? This blog does nothing for the Kingdom. How about doing blogs that bash those that are against the Gospel…just an idea…

  6. And I have a few problem with your thinking, Larry Mack.

    1) When a person repents and says “I’m sorry” (actually I’ve never even seen a public response or press statement from Mr. Tribbett concerning the matter in question), does that give us – the media – the right to act like it never happened. For us journalists, our job is to report and, every now and then, offer some kind of commentary on the matter. Seems like you’re trying to make excuses for the superstar. Don’t let the fan in you get the best of you.

Which leads to my next statement.

    2) This is a blog. Not a “kingdom” blog.

  7. Why in the world is this written like gossip people of God!?! Clearly the bible says NOT to gossip. SECOND why do we put ppl on these high pedestals like they not human too!?! The bible says ALL have sinned and fall (not fell got saved and DON’T fall anymore!!!) short of the glory of God!! So why not just mind our business not judge ppl (b/c in the end God is the true jundge and judges us and takes into account for judging others). And may I remind u that Jesus himself said “He that is without sin cast the first stone.” So regardless of what Tye Tribbett did whoever is without sin be my guest and throw that rock, gossip talk about him whatever you need to do b/c you’re perfect!! Any takers?? Who’s up first the person who wrote this or anyone out there?? Cricket, cricket. lol….SERIOUSLY!!!

  8. NitaBita…I’m about to throw a stone at you. FIRST, Tye Tribbett threw stones at everybody else. SECONDLY, you threw a couple of stones at me. Now it’s payback. Run, Forest, run!

  9. This discussion is evidence that people are just wrapped up in personalities. Nobody criticized Tye Tribbett for casting stones at everyone else for their sins. But now everybody complains once people give him a taste of his own medicine and cast stones at him for his transgressions. I guess Tye is the only one who has the right to judge. It smells like hypocrisy to me.
